Application Information

IMPORTANT NOTE:

The standard duration of study for this top-up programme BEng (Hons) Fire Engineering offered by CityU SCOPE in September 2024 will span two years, concluding at the end of August 2026.

 

We are committed to providing support and assistance to students who may face challenges in specific modules or in deferral of study. This support will be available until December 2026, allowing students ample time to overcome any difficulties and achieve their academic goals. Please note that requests for deferral of study will not be considered unless accompanied by compelling justifications, and the decision made by SCOPE and the University of Central Lancashire will be final.

 

The final decision of commencement of 2024 Intake, which should be determined by mid-August 2024, is subject to the final enrolment number of students. The University of Central Lancashire and CityU SCOPE reserve the rights of not offering 2024 cohort due to insufficient enrolment or any other extenuating circumstances.

 

 

Fees

Application

 

All applications will be processed on a rolling and competitive basis until all available places have been filled and, thus, early enrollment from interested parties are highly encouraged. The whole process and selection outcome will be endorsed by the University of Central Lancashire. All decisions will be final.

Applicants will be required to provide and upload the following documents in support of your application:

 

  • Copies of your AD/HD certificate(s) and transcript(s);
  • Copies of your English proficiency level (e.g. HKCEE/HKDSE/HKALE/IELTS certificate)
  • Copies of employment proof
  • Any other professional qualification(s)/supplementary information which is relevant to the assessment of your application

Important Notes for applying IFE discounts

 

  1. The 5% of IFE discounts are only applicable for non-CEF reimbursable modules (i.e. NOT applicable for CEF reimbursable modules). You can refer to the website at www.scope.edu/topup/fire-eng for the list of CEF reimbursable and non-CEF reimbursable modules of your programme.
  2. Students who wish to apply for 5% discount on the non-CEF reimbursable modules from the first instalment of 2024-2025 have to submit a copy of valid proof of IFE membership to fire.scope@cityu.edu.hk on or before 30 June 2024. Submission of valid proof of IFE membership during the period of 1 July 2024 to 31 October 2024 will fall into the final round process with discount effective starting from the second instalment of 2024-2025. All submission of valid proof of IFE membership after 31 October 2024 will not be handled.

 

 

Education Loan

Successful applicants are eligible to apply for the Extended Non-means-tested Loan Scheme (ENLS) administered by the Student Finance Office (SFO) of the HKSAR government. The maximum financial assistance under the ENLS is equivalent to the total tuition fees payable for the programme.

我現職於本港批發草藥製造商工程及維修部，擔任助理經理，我認為消防安全較其他學科專門，而且發展前景理想，因此我希望涉獵更多該方面的知識，日後可投身消防安全行業。課程設計理論與實務技巧並重，除了學習不同消防安全的知識及設備外，亦會以電腦模擬火警現場，透過設定及計算燃燒不同的物料及時間，以安排及設計不同防火設備的分佈，和計算疏散人群的時間，能夠減低人命及財物損失，非常實用。整個課程除了豐富了我的學識，更重要是認識到一班從事消防安全相關工作的同學，在與他們討論課題的同時，也能夠從不同行業的角度了解消防安全，加強個人分析能力。

My deepest appreciation is extended to our modules leaders, lecturers and tutors of CityU SCOPE, who gave us constructive criticism and friendly advices throughout our study of programme. There are a series of systematical methodologies to coach us how to solve fire engineering problems more effectively by providing with plenty of practical examples and sharing the tips from their own experiences and practices from the industry. We would not complete all the fire engineering course works in time without their guidance.

’10年前高級文憑畢業後，我就找到一份助理消防工程師職位。我很喜歡這份有拯救生命保障財產意義的工作，所以一直從事消防工程行業至今。

五年前有前輩提及有消防專科的學位課程，我就開始計劃報名就讀。

我由報讀Foundation Degree開始，希望先打好基礎，其後更完成了Bachelor Degree課程。城市與UClan辦的這系列課程由淺入深，理論與實踐並重，確實讓我能更進一步裝備自己。學習完課程內容後，亦令我更明白度身訂造消防設計的重要性。最後，我好多謝當中指導過我的講師，教授和博士，他們的專業和熱誠讓我獲益良多。

It gave me an opportunity to achieve the required academic qualifications without sacrificing my jobs. As a participant, I appreciated to all the teachers with their explicit explanation and effort during the lecture. Although online class limited the sense of reality compared to face to face class, I could feel the enthusiasm from the teachers who attempted to compensate the difference.
